How to improve Wi-Fi signal at home
Strong Wi-Fi depends more on where the router sits than on how much you pay for internet. These adjustments solve most issues.
Put your router in the right place
Place it in a central, elevated, open area. Avoid the floor, cabinets, behind the TV, and locations near microwave ovens, cordless phones, or aquariums.
Thick walls and mirrors block signal most. Every obstacle between you and the router reduces coverage.
Choose the right band
The 2.4 GHz band reaches farther, but it is slower and more prone to interference. 5 GHz is faster but has less range.
Use 5 GHz near the router. In distant rooms, 2.4 GHz often works better.
Change the channel if there is interference
In apartment buildings, many networks compete for the same channel. Changing it in your router settings can improve stability.
When to buy a repeater or mesh system
If your home is large, has several floors, or signal does not reach everywhere, a repeater or mesh system can help. First, test each room to learn where coverage drops.
